Brand Director - Sports Crate at Loot Crate

Loot Crate was founded in 2012 around a simple idea: put the awesomeness of Comic-Con in a box. Today, we ship some of the coolest geek, gaming, and pop-culture collectibles and accessories to a subscriber base in the hundreds of thousands (with no signs of slowing down) making us one of the top subscription box services in the world! We’ve assembled an amazing team of passionate, ambitious, impossibly nerdy people who cultivate our amazing fan community, provide support of the highest caliber, and generally just sit there radiating niceness. We’re always on the lookout for fun, hard-working new people to join our team and make Loot Crate even better.

THE ROLE:

The Brand Director will be a leader on the Crate (subscription box) management team, who manages the product direction and “cross functional team” (*including: Marketing, Merchandising, Procurement, Design, Development/Engineering, Operations, Customer Support, and Finance) through the Crate recurring life cycle from conceptualization through business development, launch, fulfillment, and post mortem analysis. You will be responsible for bringing together all these moving parts into a world-class customer experience. The Brand Director will manage the business’s P&L.

You will have a pivotal role in the curation of each individual Crate's thematic product assortment to include a mix of unique, exclusive and proprietary items across a range of relevant categories. This includes the development of our own products (e.g. figurines, t-shirts, home goods, etc.) so an understanding of the product development process is necessary. This will also include working closely with existing MLB partners to identify items that will delight subscribers and assist in the identification, curation and financial negotiation of those items.

The Brand Director will develop a thorough understanding of our customer profile and should have a deep passion for baseball and knowledge of its demographic. You will work with specialists on the cross functional team to build a distinctive targeted customer profile for each team crate and will develop a marketing/communications strategy, in line with the P&L, that achieves our financial and marketing goals.

You will manage the ongoing relationships with IP owner, broadcast partners, MLB league officials, corporate sponsors and MLB licensees. These relationships will be leveraged to acquire additional licensing rights, develop compelling product and promotions that allow the business to meet the financial objectives.

In conjunction with the team Project Manager, you will facilitate moving the team through the Crate development/management process ultimately delivering a consistently “awesome” product and experience on time and on schedule.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Collaborate with Senior Management to understand overall strategic plans and align KPI’s for the Loot Sports MLB crate
  • New feature and product development
  • Lead cross-functional teams for assigned crates through life cycle process with a focus on: delivering on time, exceeding customer satisfaction objectives and nailing financial KPI’s
  • Secure and maintain relationships with IP owner (licensor) and build expert knowledge of licensed brand assets and aesthetics
  • Manage the process for development, review and approval on all uses of IP assets on products and marketing materials related to the crates
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the customer profile and for each assigned Crate concept in order to better support decision making on crate branding, product assortments, and customer experience
  • Work on continuous improvement of the planning process through all phases of the product life cycle
  • Collaborate with digital marketing team to provide them with information and assets essential to optimize reach of each crate
  • Manage a team that leads activation, community, and customer loyalty events
  • Identify relevant market and industry trends to inform planning and decision-making

WHAT DEFINES SUCCESS:

  • Through your entrepreneurial grit, you are able to establish and grow the product into a multi-million dollar business
  • Work with senior leaders on an innovative go-to-market strategy
  • You use data to make informed business decisions

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:

  • Product management or brand management experience in consumer web or retail/consumer products businesses managing cross functional teams (5-7 years)
  • Previous P&L management experience
  • B.S. in related field, M.B.A. helpful, but not required
  • Must have some knowledge of the MLB consumer product industry
  • Passion for sports and entertainment a definite plus

  • A favorite baseball team

Company Reviews

"I think what I like most about working here is that you have a combination of insane, non-stop work ahead of you, and the backing and support of a really awesome team. It's scary and challenging, but around this crowd it feels possible, and is a lot of fun. To top it off there's something new to learn almost daily."

Working at Loot Crate as an engineer is one of the best career choices I've ever made. We are not shipping some intangible software that promises to make your life easier or to make the way you go about daily activities more efficient. The product we ship is quite simply put, an amazing box full of awesome fandoms and geek culture. Not only is it incredibly easy to love our product (because everyone geeks out about something), but having the knowledge that Looters around the world receive their crate monthly and experience some of the same feelings that we do at the office is often over-looked. I enjoy that I get to work on special projects kept underwraps before releasing publicly and being able to share with all my friends on Facebook. With more brands recognizing Loot Crate, we are able to partner with bigger names, like Blizzard, Marvel and Microsoft. Being a junior developer, I can say that learning to work at Loot Crate can often feel like trying to hold onto a really fast moving motorcycle or speedboat. The pace of fresh features and new projects is off the charts, and requires excellent, if not efficient communication skills, exceptional time management capability and on-the-fly collaboration with your team. When all is said, the work is very rewarding knowing that more than half a million Looters will visit the site, and see or benefit from the work that we accomplish.

Here is why my team is great: We are continually looking for ways to approve. We have a safe environment to communicate in. We work collaboratively, and everyone is willing to take time out of their day to help each other out.
